Information begins to surface on the Westbury-on-Trym terror suspect, Andrew Ibrahim.
The best source of personal gossip on him seems to be, not surprisingly, the Daily Mail, which has discovered his father is a consultant at Frenchay hospital, Dr Nassif Ibrahim, originally from Egypt.
This seems to suggest early claims that Andrew Ibrahim was a British convert to Islam were wide of the mark as were claims that he was not associated in any with Bristol’s Muslim community, whatever that is.
The Mail’s also discovered Ibrahim’s Myspace page from a few years ago where he lists his favourite music as hardcore, trance and techno. So meet the first techno terrorist folks!
Meanwhile Atlantic Writer over on Trym Tales is surmising that Ibrahim may have been a pupil at Colston’s School in Stapleton.
Any further Ibrahim gossip is welcome here …
First techo “terrorist suspect” surely; no presumptions of guilt based on the fact that the arrested party didn’t want to live in WoT. Having seen the photo I can see why -Westbury must have been way too dull.

Nice to see BB towing the media line on this one; obviously the presumption of innocence doesn’t apply to Muslims . . .
Or techno fans! Do I detect underlying technophobia in this post? Got something against techno have you huh?
Although TBH, “techno suspected terrorist” doesn’t have the same alliterative ring to it does it? And if you’re looking for something beyond what you call “the media line” on all this, try Bristol Indymedia where the conspiracies, occult theories, freemason plots and all the usual bollocks is available now.
I’m surprised Bindymedia aren’t out calling for his unconditional and immediate release tbh, seeing as their particular “media line” is that he never done it, there are no terorrists anywhere (except for the Masonic Jewish aliens from the planet Wrong of course) , and those videos are just part of a CIA Mossad Mi6 mis-dis-information campaign to prepare us for the coming police state where we will all be forced to watch Coronation Street constantly while being shocked with electrodes and impregnanted with alien babies and blahblhablahblahblah…
So I wouldn’t really reccomend them to anyone who is actually looking for facts, personally.
The presumption of innocence does not imply the suspension of disbelief.
We’re all entitled to draw reasonable conclusions when the bomb squad turn up outside some bloke’s house.
The caveat: were we to be called for jury duty, we would do our duty under the law and set aside any preconceived notions.
“The presumption of innocence does not imply the suspension of disbelief”….
Something wrong here, James…think a bit harder.
The ‘suspension of disbelief’ can either refer to not believing he is innocent, or not believing he is guilty, so it can work either way.
But if the bomb squad turn up at someone’s house people are entitled to ask questions. But we have to wait for the answers.
Under UK law he is innocent until proven guilty, and he has not yet been charged with any offence.
Also the current law as I understand it is that unless the identity of the suspected person is at issue, ie. in this case whether it is Andrew Ibrahim or someone else that is under investigation for any alleged offences, then both the press and the public are free to identify him in connection with the story.
In some cases such as sexual offences legal orders are imposed that those involved should not be named, but no such legal order appears to have been made here.
We now have more information about him. The above photograph is 2 years old. His fellow college students say he has converted to Islam and now looks and dresses in a more traditional Islamic style. Of course being a Muslim does not mean you are a terrorist. Neither does being into techno imply guilt, except of bad taste in music 😉
The facts seem to be that he was known at least in parts of Bristol’s Muslim community. He is said to have worshipped at the Totterdown mosque.
And the reason the police arrested him was because of a tip off from the Muslim community about his words and/or behaviour. This prompted a tip off to the police. Farooq Siddique from the Bristol Muslim Cultural Partnership related this on both BBC and ITV local news on Monday.
Personally I agree with Farooq that is reassuring that the Bristol Muslim Community is wary of any extremism.
So is Andrew Ibrahim an aspiring terrorist? We dont yet know. That should become apparent one way or the other from the police investigation and any subsequent court case.
That’s the way the system should work. Yes there have been bad miscarriages of justice, but we hope that things have improved and the safeguards of a separate police and judiciary will work. What alternative is there? A non-separate investigation, trial and judgement by Bindymedia or the Bristol Blogger?
Well, indeed, we do hope for the judicial system to work its’ magic and then we’ll find out what’s been going on in the hallowed pages of the Cancer.
But until then, it’s always fun to poke fun at the situation in a typical gallows humour stylee. Anyway, he must be guilty, look at his mad staring eyes 😛
“Anyway, he must be guilty, look at his mad staring eyes” 🙂
Ha Ha ha ha ha ha ha LOL
He was probably holding a teddybear and a cup of coco, but they were edited out of the photo!
Colston’s School seems to have a propensity for turning out disaffected anti-social elements hell bent on revenge against the corrupt system. Did I mention that I went to Colston’s too?
Interesting link about Colstons School. We all know about Chris Broad and Olly Barkly, and Mark Regan’s daughter (yes its co-ed now), but does anyone know of any others who like Chris Hutt, were “…hell bent on revenge against the corrupt system?” after having the benefit of an education at ‘crib?’
Back in the 1970s it always seemed that Clifton College parents were more ‘old money’ and Colston’s more ‘new money.’ Not many sons of shopkeepers and builders made it to Clifton, but Colstons School liked the colour of their money!
Is that still the case, or has this changed?

How has an item about terrorism degenerated into mindless middle-class dinner party chit chat? Oh I see, it’s terrorism in W-o-T style.
But really, who gives a toss what shade of money gets you into what private school.
surely all we know is that someone got the police on him and that they have blown up some of his household items – cd collection? hair gel? who knows
Most revealing,Mr. Hutt.
This stories gone a little cold in the last few days…
Any evidence yet? Or did the police blow it up 😉
Let’s not get too giddy chanting ‘Burn the witch!’ until we learn what hard evidence there is.
Why is it that ‘innocent until proven guilty’ has become radical thinking? Surely that’s a basic right in a ‘civilised’ society regardless of how you dress or what music you listen to?
It’s because of this media frenzy about terrorism that we’re so happy to give up our rights, in exchange for protection from the supposed multitude of terrorists that lurk around every street corner. Surely we can have both?
If he’s guilty (of more than thought crime) then he deserves to be punished accordingly. But let’s just simmer down and reserve judgement for now hey?
“This stories (sic) gone a little cold in the last few days…”
No it hasn’t

The evidence and it’s veracity will come out in court proceedings you fucking idiot.
Scum like the accused (if he is guilty — fuck it — he undoubtedly is – should be shot on the spot).
The fucker was trying to kill working class people as a theatrical exercise – a spectacle. The complete scumbag. Hang the tagnut. Fuck the ignorant ‘alternative living’ hippy cunt.
Well I’ve had the Terror Police at my door 2 times now over this alleged intendment. Just goes to show haw far of the make they are.
Plus they can’t seem to hold a story.
Firstly they sed they found a “Viable Dives”
(Working)
That gave them the rite to use there toys and such. Then they arrest him for supposedly having Hexamethylene Triperoxide Diamine, an band subsents:
(HMTD may be prepared by the reaction of an aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide and hexamine in the presence of citric acid or dilute sulfuric acid as a catalyst.
Like other organic peroxides such as acetone peroxide, HMTD is an unstable compound that is sensitive to shock, friction, and heat. This makes the substance extremely dangerous to manufacture. It also reacts with most common metals, which can lead to detonation. HMTD is very stable when pure (acid free) and does not quickly sublimate like its acetone counterparts.)
If it’s the guy I think I know, there a lot more stable things he could have tried to make, but hay he likes Techno…
/ A CD rom / nails and screws / some circuitry supposedly wired / batteries and some light bulbs.
Hum not quite got it together yet then “a”. Viable Dives “a”
Shame they got rid of all the hard evidence against him.
Hay, the guy was a nob.
But I don’t like the sound of it at all.
I have heard other things from people close to him, and i think it’s fucking rediclous to label him a terrorist at this point in time…….
I know andy from years ago, he is just a silly little attention seeker

His father may have been from Egypt – but actually his father is of the Coptic Christian minority in Egypt- so yes he is a convert.
