“[The Bridge Cafe at the Clifton Gorge Hotel] is essentially Modern British – whatever that means these days – and it’s unfussy and unpretentious,” writes Cancer food critic Mark Taylor.
And here’s a sample of the menu to prove it:
Pan-seared scallops with pea purree and crispy pancetta
Whole lemon sole with purple sprouting broccoli, sautee potatoes and parsley beurre blanc
Smoked salmon and avocado tian with chilli and coriander dressing
Free-range duck breast with a celeriac rosti and spiced jus
Pina colada pannacotta with pineapple crisps and coconut tuille
Seems a bit more pretentious than a rack of barbecue ribs from Franky and Benny’s at Hengrove Park …
True, though it sounds nice.
Frankie & Benny’s and the environment that it sits in, is much more an example of modern British.
yep, sounds quite an everyday typical cafe menu!!!
free range duck, not from eastville park is it??
BB: I don’t see what you’re making all the fuss about, particularly when the dishes contain such well-known indigenous British ingredients such as avocado, chilli, pineapple and coconut 😉
Amusingly this Marc Taylor muppet has got quite a bit of stick on the Ghost letters’ page recently. My favourite was his reply to a letter where he’d been accused of a bad review of Fishworks. Apparently he knows all of the restaurant owners which puts him in a unique position to be unbiased – work that one out.
